Good work in class today. I'm glad to see how quickly we jumped back into new material. Remember to finish up those surveys for class if you have not yet already. Here is what we covered today;

I know we discussed sampling in class and had an group activity, but I really want to make sure everybody understands. So, for posting, develop a line of research. Then, define the element, the target population and the sampling frame.

I would like to study highschool students' support for thier football team. The element would be the individual--highschool students. The target population would be teenagers in Ohio. The survey population would be higschool students from Canton, Cleveland, and Medina. The sampling frame would be student enrollment lists from highschools in these three cities.

I would like to study how many students smoke cigarettes. The element will be the students. The target population would be all the students at Kent State University for the Fall 2007 semester. The sampling frame would be a list from the Bursar's office of all enlisted students at Kent State for the fall 2007 semester.

I would like to study how many people with liver cancer still drink alcohol. The element will be people with liver cancer. The target population will be all of the patients at the Cleveland Clinic that were admitted for liver cancer. The sampling frame will be the patient admittance log in the cancer (liver) wing of the Cleveland Clinic for the past 6 months.

I would like to study how many college students in Ohio play X-box 360. The element would be the individual. The survey population would be students from Kent State, Ohio State, and Marrietta. The sampling frame would be enrollment lists from these schools

The element: the individual--college students
Survey population: College students at 10 U.S. colleges, 5 state schools and 5 private schools.
Sampling frame: School enrollment lists from the selected colleges

I am interested in conducting a study that focused on how many professional football players are taking some kind of supplement or some kind of enhancement drugs (illegal/legal).
Element: Individual-football player
Target Population: professional football players that are taking supplments/enhancements
Survey Population: 5 professional teams. (One European team, Arena, Canadian, 3 NFL teams).
Sampling Frame: List of all drugs that the team doctors prescribed to each team, asking each player on each team of whether or not they have or are taking any type of supplements/enhancements (illegal or legal).

I am interested in studying the amount of television high school students watch in a week. The element would be the individual (high school students) The target population would be teenagers(high school students) in the United States. The survey population would be students at five large high schools around the nation.. one in each city: Las Angeles, Chicago, Austin, New York City, and Orlando. The sampling frame would be an enrollment list of all the students in the high schools.

Target Population: Working adults in the state of Ohio.
Survey Population:One specific county from the northern, southern, eastern, and western areas.
Sampling Frame: Lists of people who have a job in each of the specidied counties.

The element would be College students.
The target population would be 5 colleges in the U.S - Ohio State, USC, Malone, Florida State, Kent State, and Boston College.
the Sampling frame would be the list of students enrolled in all of the colleges during that calendar year.

I would like to study how many college students live on campus. The element would be students. The target population would be students in Ohio living on campus. The survey population would be students living on Kent State University campus. The sampling frame would be a list from the Resident's Life department, of all the students living in the dorms.

I would like to study how many sixteen year old's have their own car. The element would be the individual (student). The target population would be sixteen year olds. The survey population would be sixteen year old high school students in Portage County. The sampling frame would be enrollment records from all the area high schools.

I would like to study bronco pulmonary dysplasia and its long-term effects on premature infants. The element would be the premature infants. The target population would be premature infants in Northeast Ohio. The survey population would be premature infants in the NICU at The Cleveland Clinic and Akron Children's Hospital. The sampling frame would be medical charts of premature infants (with bronco pulmonary dysplasia)currently utilizing the NICU at these two hospitals.

Target Population: Families in North East Ohio
Survey Population: Families who have children with autism in 3 cities in North East Ohio: Stow, Solon and East Lake
Sampling Frame: Records of these families from Schools in these 3 cities who house special needs children/or children with autism

i would like to study college kids and how much they go to the rec each week. The element here would be the individuals (college kids). The target pop would be college kids in the the state of ohio. The survey pop would be youngstown st, osu, kent, and miami oh. The sampling frame would be the recs records, of how many times the individuals used there card to go to the rec.

I am interested in how many college students are involved in extra-curricular activities at their school. The element would the individual (all college students). The target would be the population of college students in the state of Oh. The survey population would be college students enrolled at KSU, OSU, OU, and UD. The sampling frame would be student enrollment lists from all four of the above colleges.

The target population would be all persons enrolled at Kent State University. The survey population would be enrolled students that come into the rec. The sampling frame would be an official list of enrolled students from the Bursar's Office.

I would study what percentage of Kent students watched the Indians game tonight. The element would be students. The target population would be all students registered for for fall classes at any Kent campus. And the sampling frame would be a list of students enrolled in classes this fall.
