In class today, we discussed reliability and validity. Remember, reliability is a necessary but not sufficient condition to have validity of an instrument.
Reliability was discussed in;
1.) Test-retest method
2.) Split half
3.) Internal Consistency
4.) Coder reliability
5.) Reliability in interviews.
Validity was discussed in;
1.) Content (face) validity
2.) Predictive (criterion) validity
3.) Construct Validity

In class today, we discussed how GRE tests have predictive validity for GPA scores in graduate school. For discussion, list a measurement that is known to have good predictive validity. List the instrument and what it predicts.

An instrument that is known to have good predictive validity is one which most college students are familiar with: the SAT. The instrument is the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and it predicts a student's performance in college.

Another instrument that has predictive validity is that ACT. The American College Testing. This is I believe better than the sat because you can choose if you want all your scores to be sent in or just the one you did the best on...and you do not get pentalized for a wrong answer.

An instrument that is known to have a good prediction of validity is Placement Tests. At the community college that I attended we had to take Placement Tests in order to see where we placed in Math and English. There were also placement tests for foreign languages.

Proficiency tests measures student learning in various grades. The results from these tests can be used to see how good of an education citys/states or what not have. This instrument is known to have good predictive validity to future students who are also in the same class, city, state, etc. because they are getting basically the same education.

An instrument that uses predictive validity is a driving test. Drivers take both a written and an actual on the road driving test and are scored based upon how well they drive and obey the traffic laws. Those that pass are drivers fit to be on the road and those that do not pass are more of a hazard on the road and thus need to retake the test. Passing both the written and road tests are a predictor that the person should be a good driver.

One instrument that is known to have good predictive ability is the LSAT (law school admission test). This predicts and shows if a student is ready to handle the difficult challenges that will be presented to them in law school.

An instrument that is known to have a good predictive validity would be a stress assessment test, which would measure one's level of stress to show whether or not they are prone to such medical conditions as anxiety, panic attacks, heart attacks, etc. As well as assessing stress levels. The California Achievment test would show where a student ranks high in certain learning categories like math, reading, etc while assessing their weaknesses too.

Education is a topic that is often looked at and measured. Many states have started programs that attempted to measure and evaluate the level of learning that is happening in schools as students progress from grade to grade. These tests are meant to assess the knowledge of the student at the end of a given year of education. The test has multiple purposes. Two of those purposes are the amount of learning the child has gained and the amount of education the teacher has administered. It is yet to be proven just how much predictive validity these state sanctioned assessment test have. I have many friends and family in the field of education and they have little faith in the ability of this type of testing to be a true and accurate measure of the student’s abilities and the true educating that takes place in the class room.
Time will tell if no child left behind initiatives are successful.

though there might be some disagreement i feel that an instrument that gives good predictive validity would be drug tests, though they have errors there is no such thing as a perfect test but i do feel that a drug test finds exactly what it is looking with pretty accurate results

The newly developed, Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) ia an instrument of predictive validity. It is similar to the OPT, except it is said to be much more difficult. It is an assessment test of how well students have understood the majority of their grade school years, close to a comprehensive exam.

An instrument that has a good validity and reliablity is the test Pre-Med students take to get into Med School. Itis almost like the LSAT's for law school students. This test instead is measuring how well students know medical topics and if they are a good canadiate for Med-School. Andrea Kunkle #1

A measurement with good predicitive validity would be exams for a course, midterms and finals. These are known to have good predictive validity for what your semester grade will be in that course.

An instrument that has good predictive validity would be the Myers Briggs test/questionnaire. This test categorizes people's personalities and helps find careers that would match well with their personality.

Im not quite sure on this one but i think that the bar exams would be a good predictive validity, for what a good lawyer would be. The bar exam is what you have to pass in order to practice law in a state. Although the bar exam is more or less the retainment of information more or less memorizing the law, The highest scores on the bar are usually recruited to the better firms. Just like with any test there is another side where as im sure some great lawyers who just barely passed the bar.

An instrument that is known to have good predictive Validity is the MCATS. It measures how well you know about problem solving, critical thinking, and writing skills in addition to the examinee's knowledge of science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine.
