July 10 & 12
Good work this week class. First, your SPSS assignments have been graded and are posted on Vista. Many of you did very well but some missed the mark a bit, but I'm going to give you an opportunity to make back some of the points you lost. For review, this week we covered,
1.) ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)
-Main Effect
-Interaction Effect
- Post-hoc test
2.) Modes of Administration for surveys
3.) Non-probability vs. Probability sample
4.) Deficiencies in sample frame
5.) Different types of Sampling
6.) contributors to response rate
7.) Types of Survey designs
8.) Constructing Questions for surveys
9.) Margin of error
Question for thought,
Usually, when taking a survey, the instrument asks for demographic data (age, gender, income, etc.), even when this information has no bearing (say, my horror film viewing habits and aggressive nature is the study). Why then, do you think demographic information is still asked?

4 Comments:
demographics make it easier for the whitey to classify you.
Demographic information is just an easy way to group information. You can compare results with previous studies by looking at the same type of demographic to see if the data has changed over time.
(Zarine)
Demographic information gives the surveyer an easier way to categorize participants. The surveyer can determine age, race, gender, etc. and classify answers by the information. (Jessica)
also, even though the researcher may think that demographics has no bearing, they may find there is some relationship btwn age, sex, race and the variable being tested (emily)
